Q & A: What exercises are recommended for seniors to fully recover from a torn knee cartilage?

Following a structured approach is essential, especially if you’ve had surgery.

The first step is to work with a physical therapist and adhere to their rehabilitation program. Well, that’s obvious!

Once you are released from physical therapy, I think you have three options:

  1. Figure out how to exercise on your own.
  2. Purchase a program tailored to your condition.
  3. Work with a knowledgeable trainer.

Each approach has its pros and cons.

The DIY approach is free but may not be the most effective—often, it isn’t. However, people with resilience and work ethic can eventually find a way that works for them. This method typically requires the most effort and time, but it is a reasonable option if financial constraints are your primary concern.

For the second option, you will need to invest some money. A program usually shouldn’t cost more than $300. While it is not free, a few hundred dollars won’t be a financial burden for many. Having someone experienced with your condition to answer your questions about exercise can be very beneficial.

The third option is the most expensive but can be the most helpful. If you can afford a trainer, that’s great! However, you should research as much as possible to ensure the trainer is a good fit for you. The worst thing that could happen when you hire a trainer is not that you don’t see results and feel like you have wasted money, but that you could get injured and worsen your condition.

While each option has its advantages and drawbacks, it’s crucial to prioritize safety and effectiveness in your recovery journey.

Good luck!!

P.S. I’m now offering a free 4-week program. Check it out!
