Event Report – CrossFit Open 25.1

Hey everyone!

I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights from my recent experience with the CrossFit Open 25.1 workout. For those who might not be familiar, CrossFit is a high-intensity sport that combines Olympic weightlifting, bodyweight movements, cardio/endurance exercises, and plyometrics, among other things.

I’ve known the sport for about 12 years, but this was my first time participating in an event.

As the name suggests, the CrossFit Open is open to anyone eager to join. Registration is just $20, and you’re good to go once you sign up! You just need to show up at a CrossFit affiliate gym when it holds an Open workout event.

The format consists of three unique workouts, each announced over three consecutive weeks, which means participants tackle a different workout each week for three weeks in a row.

For the first workout, 25.1, I gave it a shot on 03/01 alongside five other participants.

Here is the workout.

  • AMRAP 15 minutes:
  • 3 Lateral Burpees Over the Dumbbell* (50/35 lb)
  • 3 Dumbbell Hang Clean-to-Overheads* (50/35 lb)
  • 30 ft Walking Lunge (2×15 feet)

*After completing each round, add 3 reps to the Burpees and Hang Clean-to-Overheads.

While it may seem straightforward on paper, I struggled with the Hang Clean to Overheads. That 50 lb dumbbell felt pretty heavy! I managed to push through and complete 21 reps during the round of 21 (the 7th round).

It’s Monday, and I can still feel the workout in my triceps. The soreness is a reminder of the physical intensity of the CrossFit Open 25.1 workout.
